What changed?

Public reports based on the MEA fee revision say passport and related document service charges increased from 1 July 2026. Reported examples include a fresh or reissued ordinary 36-page adult passport rising from Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 2,500, and Tatkaal service charges rising to Rs. 5,000.

Who is affected?

  • Fresh adult passport applicants.
  • Applicants reissuing passports due to expiry, exhaustion of pages, loss, damage, or detail changes.
  • Tatkaal applicants.
  • Applicants for related services such as Police Clearance Certificate where applicable.
  • Indian citizens applying through missions or outsourcing partners abroad.

Practical steps before appointment

  • Use the official fee calculator before payment.
  • Confirm whether you need 36 pages or 60 pages.
  • Check whether normal processing is enough or Tatkaal is genuinely needed.
  • For lost or damaged passport reissue, verify the replacement category carefully.
